Do Gardening for your health and happiness

A person used to talk about chess the whole day. Incidentally he was invited to see a garden. The gardener suggested him to buy 2/3 rose plants. He was so much enchanted by the beauty of rose in a few days that he planted almost 11 flowerbeds. People asked him why he had stopped playing chess, he said that after playing chess the whole day, what used to stay were memories, and that too were not good. On the other hand, serving my roses makes me realize beauty all around; it brings coolness to the eye and rejuvenates my heart. I have felt that even my health has improved. Similarly there is a major on pension, who is managing business of plants. He said that he was allowed leave from army as his heart had become compromised, his doctor had told him that he would be able to live for a few months only, if he works hard, it will prove harmful for his health, rather fatal. When asked if he was scared of the plant business because of his doctor’s warning, he said that I pondered over the doctor’s statement for some time then I decided that it was better to die than to sit idle. I used to love plants before, so I bought a dozen plants and then gave an advertisement. Friends and strangers, all came to buy them. I had no intention to make money, rather I wanted to keep myself busy and help others to decorate their surroundings, and therefore I observed nature and then advised people to decorate by plants. Keep in mind that the physician gave the warning 20 years back.
Physicians now advise people to practice gardening. One physician told a woman that if you don’t have a garden, go in the plains, dig a hole and then fill it with mud. Later when this woman was in the hospital, she asked a friend to bring her a pot of mud so that she could place her hands in it. Another woman had not gotten married, actually she was suffering from a nervous disorder therefore she couldn’t work. As a coincidence she was given African violet by someone, she grew 50 plants from it. Her friends started buying it from her. Seeing people happy with her plants, she became so enthusiastic; she bought 50 other types of plants too. Now other people came to buy them too. It resulted in cure of her nervous disorder and her views about life became positive. Handling of plants and mud gave her a new vigor. A person narrated that various thoughts came to his mind while he used to walk in the gardens; therefore he prepares all his discussions while strolling; besides this he finds solutions to his friend’s problem while strolling. A lawn does not require a spacious area, a man had made an exceptionally beautiful small garden in a limited space, and it was almost 10ft long and 14 ft wide. He had planted evergreen plants in it. On watching his blooming flowers, he would stay free of negative thoughts, doubts and suspicions, hopelessness for whole of the day. Many people live in the flats, there too small orchards can be made with the help of earthen pots. One can plant tomatoes, cucumber, onion and various other things. Some people stay very happy by the help of these orchards. Consequently you can also practice gardening to obtain health and vigor.

 

Exercise and health:

Till the end of 70s, a person’s health was defined only by his ability to consume oxygen; this was called The Aerobic condition of that person. This definition did not mention anything about the physical strength of that person. Till 1978, it was said that a normal person, to gain desired strength, requires an exercise of 15 to 60 minutes, 3 to 5 times a week. During this, heart rate should be checked at intervals. During exercise it is important to note that the heart rate should be equal to 60 to 90% but now the American college of sports medicine has stated some new rules after research which is;

Adults should add strength training exercises to their weekly schedule.

Aerobic exercises should be done 3 times a week. However the guidelines to judge the intensity of exercise have changed. Two ways have been applied to assess the intensity of exercise. One of it is the famous one, the method of heart rate, in which heart rate is noted during exercise. Even now, the one who is exercising should maintain his heart rate at 60 to 90%. The second way to assess the intensity of exercise is dependent on the fact that how long can you concentrate on the exercise. Aerobic exercises should be done continuously for 20 minutes. 20 minutes exercise is the optimum time to maintain heath of a normal person. Some people add an extra 5 minutes which definitely have a positive impact on health. The list of aerobics has been added with walking up the stairs and particular dance exercises. According to the new research strength training exercises have gained importance as it has been noticed that strength training exercises maintain the strength of bones and muscles for life. It indeed seems necessary for people to live an active and independent life till the last days so that they do not become a burden on anyone and do not require assistance to survive.
